OstroVit Betaine HCl + Pepsin is a dietary supplement that contains plenty of pepsin and betaine hydrochloride. Betaine, also known as trimethylglycine, is an amino acid that performs several functions in the human body, participating in numerous physiological processes. Betaine HCl or betaine hydrochloride regulates the level of hydrochloric acid, thanks to which it improves the protein digestion process. In addition, the use of betaine also lowers homocysteine levels. Pepsin is the active form of pepsinogen – an enzyme secreted by the gland cells of the stomach. Its job is to break down proteins and thus digest them. The intake of pepsin is especially important if the stomach cannot produce a sufficient amount of the enzyme in its normal way. In such a case, the digestion of proteins is disturbed. Disturbances in the production of stomach acid are a common problem, especially in people who eat unhealthy, are exposed to stress or drink alcohol regularly.
